Are we having fun yet?

David "Mickey" Ireland

David's first encounters with the Corvette were less than auspicious. A framed Corvette poster fell off the wall one night and shattered glass on the carpet. Once my car broke down and I rode in the back of a C3 for forty minutes. You also have to include the time the Corvette touched the guard rail in front of me and threw fiberglass all over the place.

I still loved the Corvette, but being 6' 4" I didn't think that I would ever fit comfortably into one and I was just doomed to drive Camry's and Cutlass Supremes forever. In 2000 I asked to sit in the driver's seat of my friend's new Corvette. I fit! I promptly ordered a 2001 and painfully waited for it to be delivered.

The next year I decided to support my club (Santa Clara Corvettes) in their autocross, although I didn't expect to enjoy it. I had so much fun that day I couldn't attempt to put it into words. Since then I have also discovered the thrill of drag racing at Sacramento Speedway and Infineon Raceway, as well as track events at Infineon Raceway, Laguna Seca, and Thunderhill. The Corvette is just an amazing car!
